South America, chiefly Brazil
A very strong wood in all categories, Kingwood is used mostly for decorative purposes because of the small amounts available. Works well with both hand and machine tools with a moderate blunting effect on cutting edges. It provides a fine, natural waxy finish.
Extremely popular with antique restorers as the wood was widely used in 18th century France and the Georgian periods in England. Also used for making inlay bandings, turnery, and fancy goods.
