With a specific gravity of 1.03, this timber sinks in water. One of the heaviest timbers around. Difficult to work, and splinters are poisonous. Its low acid content means it has a very low corrosive effect on nails, spikes or metal fastenings.
Description and uses:
Used mainly for marine and other construction work. Has been used in the past for billiard cue butts, fishing rods and longbows.
